Sunshine Boy started out as a recording project by two "former garage punk fledglings," Chris Conway and Matt Miceli. Their goal was to capture the integrity of their favorite bands (the Beatles, Oasis, and Sloan) in their music. They became the pop group Sunshine Boy in February of 1999, with the release of their debut album Pop Tarts. The album's only single, "Twenty-Second Birthday," obtained considerable airplay on commercial and college radio in the Boston area.
