Formed in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, around 1957, by Robert Hopkins, Leroy Joyce, Willie Guest, Oscar Watson and James West. Originally a doo-wop group, the Five Dutones moved to Chicago in the early 60s. By that time Hopkins and Watson had been replaced by Frank McCurry and Andrew Butler, respectively. Their exhilarating single ‘Shake A Tail Feather' was released in 1963. Later revived by James And Bobby Purify and Mitch Ryder, this definitive early version was a US Top 30 R&B hit.
