Biography

Formed in 1986 in Wellington, New Zealand, the Wild Poppies began as a jangle pop-inspired band, but after a move to England explored a noisier, gaze-ier sound. Their first single, "Where Is Wellington/Stare at the Sun," was released in 1987, followed by their only album, Heroine, that same year. By this time the band (Nick Taylor on guitar and vocals; Alan Carter on vocals, bass, and percussion; Andrew Young on vocals, guitar, and piano; and IDH on drums) had decamped to England, Oxford specifically, where they ended up as housemates to Swervedriver.
