TIP was the original and recurring alias of platinum-selling, Grammy-winning rapper Clifford Harris, aka T.I. When the Atlanta-based artist was signed to LaFace in 1999, he dropped the last letter of his performing name out of deference to the elder Q-Tip, who was on the roster of parent label Arista as a solo act.
