Tom Northcott

Tom Northcott began singing in 1963 in coffeehouses around the Vancouver area. He then formed the Tom Northcott Trio and played in San Francisco in 1966; Warner Brothers later signed him and released a single, "Going Down." Northcott had success with three singles in the late '60s -- the Dylan cover "Girl from the North Country" plus Harry Nilsson's "1941" and "The Rainmaker" -- and is also remembered for the sunshine pop nugget "Who Planted Thorns in Miss Alice's Garden."
