Formed in the early '50s by Carlos André Batista, an accordionist who had already worked at Rádio Tapuyo (Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte), the Trio Mossoró formed when Carlos André moved to Rio de Janeiro, adding the siblings João Batista (João Mossoró) and Hermelinda Batista (Ana Paula). Named after their home town, the trio found their way in Rio de Janeiro after Carlos André's experience, who was already performing at radios Mayrink Veiga and Nacional.
