Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi was brought up in Fujisawa City, practically in the shadow of Mt. Fuji, in a family of a professional musicians. His father had studied all string instruments and taught them in a Tokyo school. Tsutsumi started studying violin at the age of six, but two years later when a violin dealer was showing his father a half-sized cello, Tsutsumi fell in love with the sound and asked to be taught the instrument.
