Formed in Bristol in late 2008, Zun Zun Egui was created when Mauritian guitarist and singer Kushal Gaya joined with Yoshino Shigihara, after they had both just moved to the U.K. They jammed with a number of musicians before deciding on the core formation, which included bassist Luke Mosse and drummer Matt Jones. "Zun Zun Egui" is a term used in the Basque language for a group of trees, but when Shigihara spotted it while visiting, she realized it sounded like the Japanese words for "Fast Fast Weird."
