Obama Criticizes Supreme Court Split On Immigration Plan
June 23, 2016
President Obama says a Supreme Court split that blocks his immigration plan is a setback and "takes us further from the country that we aspire to be." Earlier today the high court split 4-4, which left in place a lower court's ruling that blocked the President's executive actions on immigration. Obama's plan would have shielded millions of illegal immigrants from the threat of deportation.
Speaking from the White House, the President called the U.S. a nation of immigrants. He criticized Congress for failing to fix a broken immigration system. He also hammered Senate Republicans for blocking his nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court.
