(WLW) Conrad Roy III took his own life in 2014 by locking himself in his vehicle as it filled with carbon monoxide.
In the conversation, messages reveal that Michelle Carter, Conrad's girlfriend, seemingly encouraged the boy to take his own life, even suggesting that his parents wouldn't mind.
According to The Office of the District Attorney in Massachusetts, "Carter assisted Conrad in committing suicide by counseling him to overcome his doubts and pressuring him to commit suicide in the short term."Carter told Conrad "I think your parents know you're in a really bad place. I'm not saying they want you to do it but I honestly feel like they can accept it."
"They know there is nothing they can do. They've tried helping," she went on.
Conrad, clearly reluctant to take his own life, expressed thanks to Michelle Carter, following her telling him that his parents will "always carry him in their hearts."
She told Conrad, "You need to stop thinking about this and just do it because over turning always kills, over thinking."
To which he replied, "Yeah, it does. I've been thinking about it for too long."
The text conversation continues with Conrad expressing worry with failing at an attempt to take his own life.
"Right. That's what I'm talking about. I read so much about failed attempts gone wrong that it's gotten me discouraged."
