He's not known as Mr. Lova Lova for nothing. Shaggy has released enough love songs to last a lifetime, and just added one more to his arsenal. Over the course of his 23+ year career, the Jamaican-born singer has released chart-topping hit love songs in the US like "Luv Me Luv Me," "Angel," "I Need Your Love," and "Only Love." Now, he's released his latest single "That Love." Shaggy recently stopped by iHeartRadio HQ where he opened up about his new song and forthcoming new album during an exclusive interview.
On the meaning behind his new song "That Love"
"'The whole song was inspired by the music itself. The beat was done by Scott Storch, and the melodies that just came to me from the beat were just very happy -- a feel good melody. One of the things that is associated with feeling good is just love, and being in love, and missing that one person that you always spend that time with. So it just kind of just flowed from that. Just the lyrics and everything just kind of came from that whole energy of the song, just being a feel good beat. And we had these really catchy feel good melodies, and it kind of stays within the theme of what we've done. We've had great success with 'Only Love' and with 'I Need Your Love,' and now it's 'That Love.' And I did 'Angel,' which is a love song, and 'Mr. Boombastic' is about love, and I am Mr. Lover, so... Hey!"
There is more more in store from Shaggy this year. He's been working on a brand new album, and he describes it as feeling like you're on vacation -- on a honeymoon to be exact. And there are plenty more love songs involved.
On how his upcoming album is perfect music for a honeymoon
"More love songs! If there's anytime in the world that people need love, it's now. And if you follow the Jamaicans, there's a lot of love. Jamaicans have the most baby mamas -- that's a whole lot of love making right there. You look at Peter Tosh had like 30 kids. Bob Marley had like 15 kids. And so to do a reggae album, and with some amazing love songs -- you must get this album and feel like you're on vacation. It must feel like a great honeymoon every time. You think about Shaggy, it's like, 'I gotta go get my chick and find a beach.'"
While he was at iHeartRadio HQ, we played "That Moment When" with Shaggy, using his single "That Love" as inspiration. We asked Mr. Boombastic to explain all those moments when you know ... it's that love. With emojis.

"That moment when you know it's that love [is] when it hits you, and you're surprised, and you're like, 'what the?!' Because it's probably some chick that you never thought in a million years, she walked past your house every day. She high fives you everyday. She's like, 'Yeah, that's my peeps. Yeah, we cool.' And then you wake up one morning in her bed and you're like, 'Wow. This.'"
"That moment when you figure that love out, and then you can't be without each other every single day. That's when you start finishing each other's sentences. That's that butterfly stage."
"For that moment when you find that love, and then you can't be away from each other, and then you start being with each other too much. And then she start getting really miserable at you, and then you're like, pissed off, and you're like, 'You know what? That's it. Yo. Blah blah blah.' You just get up and you just want to run."
"That moment when you find that love, and everything is going great. You think you're on top of the world. She starts yelling, and start to scream. You and her are fighting constantly. You pick up your bag. You run, and she thinks it's a joke but you're not gonna do ... she's like, 'Oh, you must come back.' And you be like, 'Peace out.'"
***Keeping it real with Shaggy***
"That moment when you find that love, and of course the story continues. You go and everything is right. You said peace out, you know what I'm saying. It's like when I said 'it wasn't me' at the end. At the end I say I'm gonna tell her that I'm sorry for the things that I've done. You might think I'm a player, but you're completely lost. Sometimes I got to be like Dr. Phil and just tell you the truth. This doesn't happen to everybody, but one thing you should not do is break the woman's heart. Now that's it from Mr. Lover."
