Cal State LA Offers Segregated Housing

A California college has set aside dorm space exclusively for black students. The Halisi Scholars Black Living-Learning Community at Cal State Los Angeles is offering 20 spots in its 192-unit dorm complex for students that would "serve as a safe space for Black CSLA students to congregate, connect, and learn from each other."
Halisi, a Swahili world that can mean genuine or original, was created after the university's Black Student Union issued a list of demands in response to its claims of racial discrimination on campus. Other schools, like UC Berkeley and Stanford, have similar housing programs.
