"A Deal With The Devil"- Look At The Making of The Plea Bargain With Danny Heinrich

(KFAN) For 27 years it was the biggest mystery in the State of Minnesota. Last week, that mystery was solved. As details have emerged over the past few days surrounding the abduction, molestation and murder of Jacob Wetterling in 1989, questions also began to arise, most of them mixed with a heavy dose of anger.

How could the justice system fail on this level? How could anyone agree to a plea deal with Danny Heinrich that would absolve him of any of his crimes? Why did this all come together now? Does this give closure for the families involved?

All of them, fair questions. Today in an interview with Stearns County Attorney Janelle Kendall, Dan Barreiro from KFAN in Minneapolis, got an insider’s perspective on all of these concerns. 

Kendall wasn’t across the table presenting Heinrich with this deal, but she was part of the team of local and federal officials that got the ball rolling, acted quickly, presented the bargain and ultimately solved the biggest mystery in the history of Minnesota.
