EXCLUSIVE: Shawty Lo's Final Days Revealed By Fabo

September 21, 2016

Earlier today (Sept. 21), Carlos Walker, better known as Shawty Lo, died in a car crash in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The hip hop artist was only 40 years old.

At around 2:20 a.m., Lo's car crashed into a guardrail. The vehicle would later hit several trees and catch on fire. Tragically, the rapper was ejected from his car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Lo had accomplished a lot in his career. He was founding member of the hip-hop group D4L and creator of D4L Records. Back in 2007, he began his solo career and released top singles “Dey Know,” and more.  Then one of the biggest moments of his career came when he signed his D4L imprint to 50 Cent's label, G-Unit South Records.

The rapper didn't only leave behind fans, but family members and friends that deeply cared for him, too. iHeartRadio reached out to a member from the rapper's D4L rap group, Fabo, and asked him to speak about the untimely passing of his friend and collaborator.

"I just want to say without Shawty Lo, I would be nothing....this industry probably never would have heard me," Fabo exclusively told us. "So I remember him forever as a brother, a father figure, and to me he will always be a legend."

May he rest in peace.

Read Fabo's words about losing Shawty Lo so suddenly below.

What made Shawty Lo a legend to you?

He had a good heart, and wouldn't hesitate to give you his shirt off his back.

What did he do for rap music?

He changed music, he gave the world D4L, he gave them snap...and then he came back and gave them Shawty Lo.

How is his family doing during this difficult time, specifically his children?

I'm quite sure it is very hard at a time like this for everybody.

What were Shawty Lo's final days before the accident like?

I spoke with him yesterday about a song, and he was happy as always.

How do you want Lo's fans to remember him?

Lo was such a people's person...I'm sitting here looking at all the pictures that people are putting up, and if you knew him you just knew it was genuine....he was genuine.
