Early Sunday morning, news broke that Miami Marlins pitcher, Jose Fernandez had lost his life in a boating accident. Fernandez, just 24 years of age, was the ace of the Marlins, and was loved by not only his teammates and family members, but all Marlins fans.

After cancelling Sunday's game against the Braves, the team took the field Monday night in their first game since the passing of Fernandez, only to honor their fallen teammate the best way they could.

The game started with a special tribute to Fernandez, where the starting players all surrounded the mound, where Jose would have been standing that night. As a whole, the team decided to all wear the number 16.

Dee Gordon made the first pitch of the game a homerun, causing not only an emotional uproar from Marlins fans everywhere, but also a tearful run around the bases for the Miami Marlin.

From that moment on, the electricity inside of Marlins Park ignited, helping the Marlins pull out a W over the New York Mets.
