Today (October 6th), Brad Paisley debuted his brand new song, which is actually called "Today" on country radio stations across the US. "Today" is the follow-up single to his Demi Lovato collaboration "Without A Flight," which was released back in May, and is expected to be included on his forthcoming 2016 album.
Before he shared his new single with fans, Brad wrote on social media, "Today I'm releasing a song that means a lot to me. I hope it becomes a soundtrack for you, that you put it to video & use it in your lives. I wanna see the ways it becomes a part of your story. It's yours now."
Brad tells iHeartRadio exclusively of the track, as he drew some of its lyrics in the sand (in the video above), that he wrote the song a few years ago, and only just recently finished it to be released. "'Today,' is a song that I started writing, actually years ago, and just recently finished and put out."
"Today" is a slower song, featuring instruments including the guitar, piano, and violin, as Brad sings lyrics like "Bring on tomorrow/Because the memory of a day like today, can get you through the rest of your life."
While Brad has his own meaning and reason as to why he wrote this new song, he's looking for his fans to create their own meaning, and is encouraging them to share how the track relates to their lives.
On the meaning behind his new single "Today"
"This is one of those things where you look at life, and you think of the greatest moments of your life and the way that they linger with you, and the way that they get you through the things that aren't the greatest moments of your life. I know what I wrote it about, but I don't really wanna talk about that yet. I would be way more interested in what the song means to [fans]. When you hear this, when you hear what I'm singing about, what is it in your life? What day? What memory? What is the thing that you go back to, to escape, and to think of as that pinnacle, when you reached the top of the mountain, or when you had the greatest, most memorable thing ever happen? We've all got those. We all live for those moments. What I like about this song, or what I like about the feeling of it is, thinking back on my life, because I've had so many, and so many of them flash through my mind. And my hope is, with [fans], that [they] make this song [their] own."
Brad is expected to drop his 11th studio album sometime later this year via Arista Nashville. The new album is a follow-up to 2014's Moonshine in the Trunk, which featured chart topping singles like "River Bank" and "Perfect Storm." And based on "Without A Fight" and "Today," we can't wait to hear the rest.
