If you're eager for a taste of Kelly Clarkson's upcoming soul-inspired album, then you have some waiting to do, my friends. Before jetting off to Los Angeles for a writing session for the upcoming LP, the pop star snuck in a promotional circuit for her new children's book, "River Rose And The Magical Lullaby," which was inspired by the stories she wanted to share with her then one-year-old daughter while on tour.
During the book's release week, the "American Idol" champ took to Barnes & Noble in New York City for a special Q&A and Storytime with fans and her editor David Linker to share a little insight about the just-released book. iHeartRadio took to the reading on Thursday night (October 6) and learned that the book was started after Kelly received some advice from her inner circle.
After writing small stories for each of destinations that River visited with her mom, Kelly's husband, Brandon Blackstock, and her nanny suggested that she turn all the stories into a children's book.
"I love reading with my kid, too, so it was kind of a win-win," she told the crowd. "It's basically the easiest thing I've done in my career just because it was effortless. I wasn't planning on writing a book. I just did it because it was for my kid and it turns into this."
Despite the ease in putting this particular book together, the Texan-born chart-topper said that penning a song is a more difficult task than writing something for the kiddos. "You're teaching a kid how to read in a sense with these picture books. It's like their first book. It's how they're receiving it, how they're learning from the beginning. It's the foundation," she explained, before emphasizing how much more freedom exists with cadence and meter in the art of songwriting.
