10 Reasons Why We Love Monica So Much

Monica Denise Brown (née Arnold) is beautiful and talented. There is no doubting that, not even for a split second. Today (Oct. 24) is the R&B icon's 36th birthday and we're more than ready to celebrate the big day.

My fellow iHeartRadio colleagues already know that the star is one of my FAVORITE singers on the planet. But, this immense love is because of an array of different reasons. With her career that expands over 20 years, Monica has continued to be a queen in the music industry due to a few essential things. She has incredible voice, she has that authentic "homegirl" personality that makes you feel like she's one of your homies and her stage presence makes you recognize how official she is.

Want more proof that that she's everything? Her stacked up resume can do just this. Being eight albums deep, Monica has sold over 30 millions albums worldwide. She also became the first very recording artist to drop singles that topped the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. Moreover in 2010, Monica was ranked #24 in Billboard's Top 50 R&B and Hip Hop Artists of the past 25 years list.

These are all facts. The entertainer's influence is still very visible in today's music. From her countless hits that give every R&B lover all of the feels when they're played, to new recording artists and millennials still showing her music love. Need we remind you of the #SoGoneChallenge? Future rap superstar Chance The Rapper was one of the thousands of young people who added his bars to the singer's timeless song.

Because I want to show major love to the R&B singer/songwriter, I decided to speak to one of Monica's former songwriters Daryl Simmons. He wrote a couple of the singer's major songs including "Why I Love You So Much" and "Don't Take It Personal (Just One Of Dem Days)."
