The Chainsmokers performed their hit collaboration with Halsey, "Closer," during the 2016 American Music Awards. But the duo and singer/songwriter kicked things up a notch by surprising the crowd (and everyone watching at home) with another amazing artist added to the mix: Blink-182's drummer Travis Barker.
The performance kicked off with Drew walking out onto the stage to sing his part, before Halsey emerged to sing hers. Then, Travis popped up out of the stage, rising on a platform as he went to town on the drums.
In case you were wondering where Travis fits into this equation, other than the fact that he's an amazing drummer, one of the lyrics in "Closer" is "Stay and play that Blink-182 song." AND it is well-known that Halsey is a Blink fan, and there are early videos of her, before her music career took off, covering the band's song.
Aside from their awesome performance, The Chainsmokers also won the AMA for Favorite EDM Artist.
"Closer" was released back in July via Columbia Records and hugely successful for the duo. The single went 3x Platinum in the United States, 5x Platinum in Australia, 4x Platinum in Canada, among milestone certifications in several other countries across the world. The track also topped to the US Billboard Hot 100, US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, and US Mainstream Top 40 chart.
Congrats, guys!
