40 years ago, the Sex Pistols released their single, "Anarchy in the U.K." and to mark the occasion, Joe Corre, the son of longtime Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, torched his entire collection of punk memorabilia.
While floating down the Thames in London, Joe told a crowd of about 100 people, "Punk was never meant to be nostalgic. Punk has become another marketing tool to see you something you don't need."
Corre's collection, which includes clothes, posters and other items, was valued between $6.2 and $12.5 million. He also burnt up dummies of current and former Prime Ministers that wore Sex Pistols clothes.
It's called the Burn Punk London event and will continue throughout the week.
Pistols guitarist Glen Matlock weighed in on the destruction, telling Sky News, "I want to paraphrase Monty Python, in that he's not a savior, he's a naughty boy and I think Joe is not the anti-Christ, I think he's a nincompoop."
