Fergie 2016

It's easy to forget that it's been a whole decade (yes, 10 years) since Fergie left her Black Eyed Peas circle to venture on a solo career, which spawned her 5x certified debut LP, The Dutchess, courtesy of the album's hit songs "London Bridge," "Fergalicious," "Glamorous" and "Big Girls Don't Cry." Since then, F-E-R-G-I-E decided it was time to tend to her personal life, so she tied the knot with Josh Duhamel and welcomed the arrival of her first child, Axl Jack Duhamel. Now, a decade later, the pop siren is prepping the release of her appropriately titled sophomore effort, Double Dutchess

We've already heard a small taste of the set with "M.I.L.F. $," but the singer just released another single from the collection titled "Life Goes On." In promotion for the release, the 41-year-old BEP frontwoman took to iHeartRadio HQ in New York City to talk about the new cut, hitting the beach to film the video and the pressure to get her second LP right.

Oh, and considering she just loves to doodle, we also recruited the pop star to put the pen to paper in another installment of "In Her Words." Take a look below!

On Why She Decided To Release "Life Goes On":

I definitely wanted to release something that was different from "M.I.L.F. $" or "L.A. LOVE" that was just peeling back the layers and opening my soul a little bit and showing some vulnerability on purpose. That's a lot of what my album is, along with the fun stuff. It's also a lot of the deeper levels of who I am and putting that out into the universe. . . .I think it's a time where people, as a whole, want some healing. This song is definitely about taking all the negative voices away and moving forward and pushing yourself through those fears and being the change you want to see. Going towards the positive. That's, basically, what this song is for me. It's about talking in the mirror and giving myself a pep talk to face those fears, push past those [fears]. Love always leads to the highest sound. That's the whole thing. Do everything with love. Send it out with love and you can't go wrong.

On The Concept For The "Life Goes On" Music Video:

It was so great working with Chris Marrs because he had this amazing treatment. First off, we were in Paradise Cove in California. Just on the coastline. Being one with nature was a very natural feeling. [It] was very organic. I wanted it to be appreciative of all of that. Sometimes we don't just look at what a beautiful world we live in. Aside from all the madness that's going on, look at this gorgeous world that we're living in. To be grateful to live every day. There was that aspect of it. Chris Marrs has got this great comedic eye, comedic timing. He thought it was a great idea for me to have three generations of age. It's about life and life goes on. Baddie Winkle is one of my sidekicks. We auditioned and got this wonderful, amazingly cool girl, Stephanie, to be my younger sidekick. They're both my homies. They're my little sidekicks. I pick them up in [a] Ferrari because, you know, ambition on Ferrari. I got to drive this Ferrari down the coast with my two posse members. We come across this bonfire. Of course, we have to crash the bonfire and perform and just enjoy it. It was a cool thing. He had this whole concept of having these different generations. Baddie Winkle was so classic. She was smoking a cigar and I pick her up on the side of the road. It's quite funny, not overly ha-ha funny. I've got to always have fun with it.

The Delay Of Double Dutchess:

I definitely have felt so much pressure on a timeline and thought I could get it done so much faster than I could. You keep moving and keep moving and sometimes it feels like you can't get things done fast enough. I think any mom can relate with that. I'm telling people, 'The album's coming but I feel like the boy who cried wolf.' My gosh. It's so embarrassing. I'm so ready to release it to the world and I'm sorry it took so damn long. I just didn't want to release a half done album and regret it the rest of my life. I'd rather just be late to the party and show up with the outfit done, or bring the meal. I don't just want to bring the salad with no dressing. It's got to have all the seasonings in it. I just really care.
