We all have to start somewhere and even rock heroes like Dave Grohl have material they wish never saw the light of day. In an outtake from Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways series, the frontman listens to an alternate version of 1990's "Gods Look Down" - reportedly the first song he ever wrote, played all the instruments on, and recorded.
The video was posted by The Laundry Room, owned by Foos producer Barrett Jones, and shows the two listening to the 8-track of the recording. “I sound like a girl,” Grohl grimaces when he hears his voice, “I don’t think my balls had dropped yet.”
Grohl told Rolling Stone about his embarrassment listening to his previous work in a previous interview. “When we went to shoot Barrett for the Sonic Highways Seattle episode, he was putting on songs that I’d recorded, f**k, I don’t know, 25, 26 years ago? I had, songs I had no recollection of, which is weird. It’s almost like seeing a snapshot of yourself, passed-out drunk at a party. You’re listening to a song like, ‘Oh, my God, what was I thinking?'”
