Is It a Real Proposal If He Doesn’t Get Down On One Knee?

A traditional marriage proposal typically plays out like this: Your partner bends down on one knee, betroths themselves to you, and presents a sparkling diamond ring nestled in a black velvet box. But what if he doesn’t get down on one knee? 

I saw a basketball halftime proposal and the dude didn't get down on one knee...is that a deal breaker these days? Should every guy have to get down on one knee for a proper marriage proposal? I didn’t get down on one knee when I proposed to my last wife and she didn’t seem to care....however we were cross-crossed applesauce down the carpet.
