INTERVIEW: LANCO on 'Greatest Love Story' & Performing Live
By Nicole Mastrogiannis
March 24, 2017
"There's a little bit of everyone's story in our music," country band LANCO tells us. "From love stories, to a night out on the town, we cover it all." This is what you can expect from the Nashville native band.
LANCO -- short for Lancaster & Company -- consists of Brandon Lancaster (lead vocals), Chandler Baldwin (bass guitar), Jared Hampton (keyboards), Tripp Howell (drums), and Eric Steedly (guitar). The guys originally formed in 2013 and last April (2016), they released their debut EP, cleverly titled Extended Play. The four-song EP includes their previous single "Long Live Tonight" and current single "Greatest Love Story."
We recently caught up with LANCO in Nashville at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and they told us more about their single "Greatest Love Story," what fans can expect from their live shows, and plans for the rest of 2017. Check it out below.
Tell us about your new single "Greatest Love Story." What's the meaning behind the song?
"[It's] just the classic love story, kind of love lost and love found."
What do you think the greatest love story of all time is, if you had to pick one?
"Probably, The Notebook. I'm not sure if that's actually fiction, or real or not, but The Notebook is a great love story."
How would you describe your music to someone who is just discovering you?
"We're a band so we have a lot of influences from country, to rock, and some pop influences. So we've kind of thrown it all into a pot of this energetic music that's kind of anthemic, and just telling the stories of peoples' lives with rock influences; Kings of Leon, bands like that, to country influences from Eric Church [and] Zac Brown Band. The guy that is producing our records, his name is Jay Joyce, who is working on all the Eric Church records and Brothers Osborne records. So there are a lot of dynamics of music, and we have a good time in the studio. We get pretty crazy."
Being that you're going to be out on the road this year, what can fans expect to see when they go to your concerts?
"Our live show is really energetic. We put a lot of energy and work into our live show. That's one thing that a lot of people don't know about us. When we have live shows, we like to get a little rowdy and dance."
What can fans look forward to from you this year?
We're going to be touring and playing festivals, [we're] gonna be at Bonaroo, [and] just touring all over the country. And hopefully [we'll] have an album coming out this year. We're working on an album right now with Jay Joyce, the producer in Nashville, and it's been a really fun experience getting into the studio with him. He has worked with such legends from Emmylou Harris, to Eric Church and Carrie Underwood. So, we're working right now in the studio with him doing an album, and it's gonna be a good one."
