INTERVIEW: James Hersey on 'Miss You' & Plans for 2017

"Everyone's Talking" ... about James Hersey. You may already be familiar with the electropop singer/songwriter from Vienna, Austria from his song "Coming Over," which turned into a collaboration with electronic music producers Kygo and Dillon Francis. And in 2017, James is definitely an artist to keep your ear out for as he releases new solo music. 

So far, he's released his singles "Miss You" and "Everyone's Talking," and there is more where that came from because an EP is also on the way this year. James is currently on a co-headlining tour with electropop duo Powers, stopping in US cities including Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and more.

We recently caught up with James while in Los Angeles, and during an exclusive interview, we got to know more about him, his music, his Disney fandom, and more. Check it out below:

Tell us about your single "Miss You." What does the song means to you?

"I wrote the song very quickly last year. I was traveling a lot and I came back from a tour promo situation, and there was a girl that I was truly in love with, but I needed to leave very quickly after that. And I had a lot of questions. I think that people expect artists to come back with answers all the time, but I didn't have any of those, so I just put the questions down. That's the track."

Along those lines, looking at your Twitter, you tweeted "Some days it's the hardest thing not to write you. So I write about you instead." Is that the same girl from "Miss You"?

"Yes."

What should fans know about you as an artist?

"I'm a really nice guy. Don't be afraid to say hi. I'm happy to experiment, so I listen to a lot of different kinds of music. I have some small playlists and stuff that you can look up. I grew up playing in bands all my life. I played in punk bands, and rock bands, and psychedelic bands, electronic."

So, what's it like being a solo artist compared to being in a band?

"Vienna, Austria is like the center of classical music, and it was hard to find truly great people. I've found them now, but it's a bit late. So, I kind of had to do my thing, and traveling is beautiful because it's easy, but also tough because you're alone a lot. You love your phone and hang out with your friends a lot on your phone and Snapchat."

What else can fans look forward to from you this year?

"I finished an EP that's ready to go. I have a track coming out very, very soon from that, and hopefully more music. I'm writing all the time so there's pretty cool stuff coming out."

Looking through your Twitter, I see that you're a big Disney fan. What is your favorite Disney movie of all time?

"That's a tough one. I think I'd just go Aladdin. That's the best."

Do you have a favorite song from the soundtrack?

"A Whole New World."
