The US Army says an explosion at an ammunition plant in Independence Missouri has left at least one person dead and three other people injured.
An Army Joint Munitions Command spokesperson says the explosion occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Lake City Army Ammunition plant. No further details were available on the nature or reason for the explosion were given.
The plant manufactures small-caliber ammunition and is owned by the Olin Corporation. It was originally established by Remington Arms in 1941 to manufacture and test small-caliber ammunition for the U.S. Army during World War II.
