GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan is cheering what he calls a "pro-growth tax reform" plan that is being unveiled by the White House.  In a Capitol briefing yesterday, Ryan said it will lead to lower rates and a simpler federal tax code.  He noted that congressional Republicans are working on a "unified" bill to get the White House tax plan approved.  Ryan also said congressional leaders are close to finalizing a deal to fund the government.  The government runs out of money at week's end.

Meantime, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said progress is being made on a revised plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.  A House healthcare plan collapsed last month due to opposition from some moderate and conservative Republicans.  Ryan said the revised plan aims to give states more flexibility while prompting lower premiums.
