Muse Debuts New Single 'Dig Down' | World Premiere

May 18, 2017

Muse is back with their first new material in two years. The band released their new single "Dig Down," which follows their 2015 album Drones, and iHeartRadio has the world premiere for you to listen to on demand right here.

In a press release, Matt Bellamy said of the new single, "When I was writing this song, I was looking to counteract the current negativity in the world and give inspiration, optimism and hope to people to fight for the causes they believe in; that as individuals we can choose to change the world if we want to."

"Dig Down" is a one-off single about getting through tough times, and draws a little bit of influence from what is going on in the world today, Muse's own Chris Wolstenholme and Dom Howard opened up to us about the song's meaning. "This song is about finding strength in the face of some kind of adversity, really," Dom exclusively tells iHeartRadio. "It's a really simple message, but a strong one. It can relate to anything personal in your life, but also it's slightly influenced by the times that we live in, the things that are going on in the world right now."

Muse worked with a producer they've never worked with before on "Dig Down" -- Mike Elizondo. Elizondo has done a lot of work with Dr. Dre and Eminem, among a long list of talented artists. Chris tells us of working with the LA-based producer:

"We had a great time in the studio recording this song. We worked with a guy called Mike Elizondo, who we've never worked with before, who I think brought some really cool stuff to the song. He's more of an electronic producer. We're used to working more with rock guys, so it was really interesting to work with a new guy, and I think this song is a little bit different than something we've done before."

Along with the new single, the band also released the official music video for "Dig Down." The action-packed visual was directed by Lance Drake and stars model and former athlete Lauren Wasser, who was nearly killed by toxic shock syndrome, and lost her leg because of it, five years ago. She's also on the single's official cover art (as shown above). Lance Drake said of the "Dig Down" music video:

"The song is about survival and fighting the odds – when I heard this song I knew I wanted to do an action packed narrative. I’d heard about Lauren a year or so ago, I read her story and she gave me personal inspiration so I’d always kept her in mind to shoot with one day. The power of the song made me think of her … so I wrote the video narrative based on Lauren’s story and how she overcame the odds."
