By Nicole Mastrogiannis, James Dinh & Isha Thorpe
June 5, 2017
There has been a lot of great new music released over the last few weeks. You can find out what was released this weekend in our New Music Report, but take a look at what we've been listening to lately. Our editors Nicole, James, and Isha have shared some of their Expert Picks for the week. Check it out below:
Nicole's Picks:
RL Grime & Miguel - "Stay For It"
Miguel's voice is one of my favorites. So when RL Grime released this track, I knew I was going to love it. This song is epic. "Stay For It" definitely packs a punch, between the powerhouse production from RL Grime, and Miguel's sensual vocals and heartfelt lyrics -- the best of both worlds.
In fact, in a behind-the-scenes video, RL Grime says of the song, "It feels like a perfect marriage between both of our sounds." And Miguel added, of seeing the electronic musician's show once, "I've seen your shows. I remember standing there, and just being like, 'f***.' Because at every dynamic of everything, they were all the way in. All in. For the down moments, for the up moments, it was right there with you."
Bakermat featuring Kiesza - "Don't Want You Back"
This. Song. RULES. Dutch producer/DJ Bakermat has teamed up with Canadian vocalist Kiesza (the voice behind 2014's "Hideaway") for this absolutely infectious and catchy dance track all about breaking up with someone, and being completely done with them and moving on. Don't want you back, back, back, back/No point in begging on your knees/Nothing that I haven't seen before." Welcome to your new favorite breakup anthem.

James' Picks:
SZA - "Broken Clocks"
SZA is an unapologetic badass and her latest CTRL single, “Broken Clocks,” is the perfect example of that trait. Following the release of "Love Galore" "Travis Scott" and "Drew Barrymore,” the R&B darling is over and done with former flames on this new cut. "Been about three years since I dated you/ Why you still talking 'bout me like we together?," the TDE songstress croons during the second verse. "I moved on for the better/You moved on to whoever.” Ouch! We're less than a week from SZA's highly-anticipated LP, which drops on June 9.
Hey Violet - "O.D.D."
All seems to be shaping up well for Hey Violet’s second album, From the Outside, which comes out in less than two weeks. After their stellar lead single, “Guys My Age,” and the follow-up single, “Break My Heart,” the five-piece returns with a atmospheric slice of the pie called “O.D.D.” “Whenever we play this live, I give my spiel before the song. I say, 'We all feel different sometimes, we all feel a little out of places, a little messed up, and honestly it’s okay and it only makes you human,” Rena Lovelis said.

Isha's Picks:
Yo Gotti featuring Nicki Minaj - "Rake It Up"
Yo Gotti and Nicki Minaj just released a banger called "Rake It Up" -- and it may be one of our new favorite songs. The track is perfect for turning up, whether you're partying at a strip club or a lit house party. What else would you expect from a Mike Will Made-It produced song? Of course, it's going to be a smash! Gotti spits: “I made love to a stripper (stripper), first I had to tip her (phrrr)...20 thousand ones, (woo) she said I’m that n**ga (I am)/I said I’m that n**ga, b**ch, I already know it (I know it)/I come with bad weather, (ksh) they say I’m a storm.”
Minaj soon comes through with her barz. “Brought out the pink Lamborghini just to race with Chyna/Brought the Wraith to China just to race in China/Lil’ bad Trini b**ch but she mixed with China/Real thick vagina, smuggle bricks to China.” Listen to the new hit below.
August Alsina - "Don't Matter"
After coming clean about his liver disease diagnosis earlier this week, August Alsina has released his latest love anthem entitled "Don't Matter." Though this news was tough to hear from his doctors, Alsina is holding his head up high and remaining optimistic. He's all about spreading love and positive vibes now. That brings us to his new single "Don't Matter." He's singing about giving his all and loving a significant lover unconditionally. Listen to "Don't Matter" below. It's beautiful.
