Emergency crews are on the scene after a blimp crashed today near the site of the U.S. Open at Erin Hills, Wisconsin. There are no immediate details of what happened, but video images show the blimp apparently on fire before it hit the ground near Highway 83 and Highway 167.
The blimp crashed in a remote area, and first responders had to use ATVs to reach the crash site. TMZ Sports is reporting that the pilot suffered injuries in the crash. He had burns to face and has pain in his neck and back.
In perhaps the most fitting metaphor for 2017, the Goodyear blimp just exploded into flames & crashed at the #USOpen in Wisconsin. pic.twitter.com/NdGnuftg1g
