Sunday (June 25) night, the 2017 BET Awards took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
The music ceremony was full of fun performances, legendary award recipients, epic speeches and viral moments. However, one thing that sort of rubbed people the wrong way was the lackluster Prodigy tribute.
Last week, the Mobb Deep member died at the age of 42. We still don't know whether or not his sickle cell anemia was the cause of his passing. The 2017 BET Awards lightly touched on Prodigy with a small speech from surviving Mobb Deep member, Havoc, and Lil Kim.
"This week, hip-hop suffered a painful loss, with the sudden passing of our brother, Prodigy," Lil Kim said. "His pen painted vivid pictures of street life. He made what was ugly sound beautiful." Havoc added: "For over 20 years, he and I went through it all, and seen it all," Havoc added. "I'm going to miss my dude. This loss is painful. But the lyrical legacy he left us will impact the culture forever. Rest in peace, Prodigy. My brother."
Master P has since blasted the BET Awards for allegedly pretending to care about the late rapper now that he's dead. He posted a video of himself slamming the awards show. The clip was captioned: "The Truth Hurts…BET Would Have Never Changed Their Show For Prodigy If He Was Still Alive!! It was a great thing acknowledging and celebrating the life of Prodigy and all of his accomplishments. But It’s a shame that none of these artists are told how great they are while they’re alive."
Listen to Master P speak the realness about Prodigy and the BET Awards above. And see some Twitter reactions about the very small tribute below.

i don't even know what a proper prodigy tribute would look like, but i do know his resume is worth one.

i may be biased because mobb deep is my favorite rap group, but i felt that prodigy "tribute" at the awards last night wasn't enough.

So the fact they couldn't do a tribute performance for Prodigy is bull especially when they did it in 2009 for MJ changed the whole show
