In a clip of HBO's four-part docu-series about Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine's relationship, "The Defiant Ones," Eminem and Dre detailed exactly how "My Name Is" was created.

According to the two of them, it was done effortlessly. “Eminem comes in, in this bright-yellow f**king sweatsuit—hoodie, pants, everything,” Dre said. “It’s bright f**king yellow. And I’m like, ‘Wow.’” Em also admitted that when he walked into Dre's studio -- which was in the producer's house -- he was starstruck at first. "I'm looking at Dre like, 'Dude I see you on TV all the time – you one of my biggest influences in life,'" Eminem said.

Soon after Slim Shady gets seated, Dre decided to play him something. “I went and I put some samples together, did a couple of things in the drum machine, and I invited him over,” Dre told Em. “I was like ‘Man, listen. I put this sample together. Tell me if you like it.’ And I hit the drum machine …” The producer played a sample of Labi Siffre's 1975 song "I Got The..."

“Maybe two or three seconds went by and he just went: ‘Hi! My name is…my name is…’ Like, ‘Yo, Stop! S**t’s hot,’” Dre said he told Em. “That’s what happened our first day in the first few minutes of us being in the studio.” And the rest was music history!
