Meghan Gilbert was always mocked by bullies for her thighs. The cruelty led to a binge-eating disorder that caused Meghan to become severely obese.

“I used to be called ‘thunder thighs.’ People would say ‘thunder just struck’ when I entered the room because my legs would ‘jiggle so much,'” Meghan told Caters News.

Her eating disorder, coupled with anxiety and depression, led her on a dark path. But while in college, Meghan looked at her old high school photos. She saw how unhappy she was back then, so she decided to change.

“I believe you can still be bigger and love yourself, but I didn’t like who I was at all,” she recalled. “I hated my body, and seeing the images that were taken still breaks my heart.”

Meghan began lifting weights. Though her body started to change, her thighs were still large. However, they had become stronger and muscular.

“Now, if anyone tells me my legs are huge, I can say I have ‘thunder thighs’ in a positive way,” she said. “People used to use it against me as something bad, but now I body build. I see it as a good thing: they are strong, muscular, and something to be proud of.”

Once afraid to wear shorts in public, Meghan now shows off her transformation to inspire others on her Instagram page with over 40,000 followers.

“I see my legs as my strongest point and the asset I’m most proud of. I work on them all the time; while I still have some fat, I love them,” she said.

Now, Meghan is set on inspiring others, starting with the mind, not the body.

“It all starts with your brain. Learning to love yourself changes your mindset completely,” she said. “Since achieving that, I have been much more confident, happy, and healthy than I have ever been.”
