Minneapolis Police Department Creates New Body Camera Policy

July 26, 2017

The Minneapolis Police Department is announcing a new body camera policy in the wake of an Australian woman's shooting death. Acting Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said officers must turn on their body cameras when responding to any call or traffic stop.

Arrandondo said that "many officers are using their cameras a lot and as they're intended to be used. But there are some officers who are not using them nearly enough."

The new policy announcement comes after Justine Damond was shot and killed by an officer in Minneapolis on July 15th.  Neither officer involved had turned on their body cameras and the dashboard camera was also not on.  The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
