In an interview with iHeartRadio's AD, Metallica guitar virtuoso and one of the nicest guys in rock, Kirk Hammett, opened up about the group's early ambitions and if they had the vision that they would one day be the biggest band in the world. The one member of Metallica who had the foresight of their global domination? The always outspoken Lars Ulrich.
When asked if he had any sense that Metallica's success would be possible, Hammett answered, "not in my wildest dreams." He continued: "I don't think James (Hetfield) did, I don't think Cliff (Burton) did, I think Lars (Ulrich) might have had a clue because he has that amazing foresight."
"I just wanted to figure out a way to make a living playing music," the guitarist continued. "That's all I was really expecting, talk about a low expectation motherf***er," he joked. "I started playing shows with Exodus and I could see how to turn this into a living if I played locally... and gave lessons to people and gave the odd studio session."
"At the end of the day I really just wanted to not be able to work at Burger King."
Hammett also talked about his love of Jimi Hendrix, why the band has been able to be relevant for some many decades and much more.
