FaceApp Pulls "Ethnicity Filters" Over Racist Charge Backlash

The popular photo-filter app FaceApp is pulling its new "ethnicity filters" that users say are racist.  The filters released yesterday allowed users to edit their selfies by adding "Asian," "Black," "Caucasian," and "Indian" filters that changed the users' appearance.  FaceApp's CEO said in a statement less than 12 hours after the updated filters were released that, quote, "the new controversial filters will be removed in the next few hours."   

FaceApp uses artificial intelligence to create images that change age and gender.  It was developed by the Russian company Wireless Lab and released in January.
