"Rally Cat" Sparks Cards' Comeback

By John Belaska

Do you remember the Cardinals' "Rally Squirrel?"  Well now they have a "Rally Cat."  A cat ran onto the field at Busch Stadium in the bottom of the sixth inning against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday with two outs and the bases loaded and Yadier Molina at the plate.

After a grounds crew member retrieved the cat in the outfield, Molina belted a grand slam on the very next pitch to put the Cardinals in front for good.  A squirrel ran across home plate in St. Louis during the 2011 playoffs and was adopted as an unofficial team mascot.  The Cardinals went on to win the World Series that year.
