San Diego Leaders Defend Removal Of Jefferson Davis Plaque

(San Diego, CA)  --  San Diego leaders are defending the decision to remove a plaque from Horton Plaza downtown.  It honored Jefferson Davis, who was president of the confederacy.  The plaque was removed yesterday morning as cities across the country continue pulling down Confederate monuments. 

 The removals follow a white nationalist rally that turned violent last weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia.  Republican Mayor Kevin Faulconer said he ordered the removal of the plaque and that San Diegans "stand together against Confederate symbols of division."  Councilman Chris Ward says monuments to bigotry have no place in America's Finest City.
