In honor of what would have been vocalist Layne Staley's 50th birthday, Alice In Chains posted a tribute video remembering the incredible voice and legacy of the rock icon. “Layne, to me, was f***king one of the greatest singers in rock and roll history,” guitarist Jerry Cantrell said as the video opens.

“I’ve never heard anything like him before and I will never hear anything like him since," Cantrell continues. "Just to be able to get to be in a band with a guy that does that to you, there’s nobody better to me than him and he’s my friend.”

Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, who played with Staley in Mad Season, Heart's Ann Wilson, and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready all share memories of the powerful vocalist in the video.

Layne Staley died of a drug overdose on April 5, 2002, at the age of 34. Staley's mother has recently spoken out against America’s recent opioid epidemic.
