Doctors Tell Her She’s 30 Weeks Pregnant, But It Was Actually A Cyst

Kirsty Butler and her boyfriend, Celern, were ecstatic to learn that she was pregnant after taking a home pregnancy test.

“It came back positive, so me and Celern were so excited. Doctors predicted I was 30 weeks, as, by this point, my stomach had grown rapidly,” Kirsty told Caters News. “But when we were sent for a scan, our nightmare began.

“It wasn’t a baby in my womb ‚ it was a 30 cm by 20 cm cyst that was growing every day.”

In fact, that massive ovarian cyst had caused her to miscarry at 6 weeks pregnant.

“I was heartbroken,” Kirsty said. “There was no heartbeat”

Kirsty had the surgery to remove the massive ovarian cyst. After six weeks at the hospital, she was able to go home. Now, she is sharing her story to raise awareness about ovarian cysts.

“I was lucky my cyst was benign, but I had to have my ovary removed, as it has been crushed,” she explained. “If it had been left any longer, it could have started to crush my organs.”

Fortunately, after a series of fertility tests, Kirsty was shown to be able to conceive again.

“I was over the moon that I had enough eggs in my one ovary, we were told we shouldn’t have any problems conceiving,” she said.

Kirsty hopes others will see her story as a cautionary tell. She didn’t think to take a pregnancy test — even after her belly had ballooned to four times its size — until coworkers began to pressure her. She hopes other women will pay close attention to what their bodies are telling them.

“I hope my story raises awareness for cysts and how dangerous they can be,” she says. “I wasn’t taking much notice of my body, but now I’m always vigilant in case it comes back.”
