Luis Fonsi holds his homeland of Puerto Rico near his heart, and considering the tragic aftermath of Hurricane Maria, he's extremely concerned for the island. In a new interview with CNN's New Day, which aired on Thursday morning (September 28), the Latin chart-topper explained just why it's so difficult to look at footage of the humanitarian crisis.

"It's so tough to see those pictures, the before and after pictures of La Perla," he admitted. "[It's] so important. First of all, being from Puerto Rico, loving my island, having my family there, I'm already devastated."

Fonsi went on to speak about shooting the video for his global smash, "Despacito," in La Pera and how the scene from his Daddy Yankee-assisted clip is so different now than the current reality that Puerto Rico is experiencing. "On a professional level, it was so important for this song and this video. Now, we see the pictures and it's like 'Ahh. What do we have to do to get Puerto Rico back on its feet [and] La Perla back to looking like it looked on the video?" he said with sadness. "We're here. We're crying out for help. We're trying to do as much as we can to come together and help the island."

Earlier this week, some of Latin's biggest stars like Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez, Marc Anthony and Daddy Yankee went public with their concern and helped out by donating to hurricane relief. You can help out by giving to United For Puerto Rico, which is an organization created by the governor's wife Beatriz Rosselló and aimed at providing assistance to victims.
