Trump To Waive Jones Act For Puerto Rico

By Hector Gonzales

September 28, 2017

President Donald Trump is waiving a law that has limited shipments of emergency supplies into Puerto Rico.  The Jones Act requires only U.S.-flagged ships to deliver cargo between U.S. ports.  Waiving the act means ships from neighboring islands can bring supplies directly to Puerto Rico.

The U.S. territory's governor has been lobbying the Trump administration to waive the Jones Act in order to get badly needed supplies to Puerto Rico.
