October 23, 2017
The Easybeats guitarist and songwriter George Young has died.
The 70-year-old's death was confirmed by his Australian music publishing and recording house Alberts in an online statement on Monday.
"It is with great sadness that Alberts acknowledge the passing of George Young," the statement read.
AC/DC said in a statement the band wouldn't exist without Young's "help and guidance".
George Young was born in Glasgow, Scotland, with his family emigrating to Australia in 1963.
George's shot to fame with The Easybeats in the mid 60's, he co-wrote almost all of their songs, first with singer Stevie Wright (who passed away in 2015) then later with lead guitarist Harry Vanda.
When the band broke up in 1970, Vanda & Young concentrated on writing and producing pop and rock songs for other recording artists, and for themselves under various stage names, most notably Flash & The Pan.
With Vanda and businessman Ted Albert, he formed Albert Productions.
He also helped his younger brothers Malcolm Angus producing their fledgling group AC/DC.
He also produced Rose Tattoo, The Angels and John Paul Young and many other acts.
