Joy and Joyce Magsino were born conjoined at the forehead. The twin sisters from the Philippines were nearly separated until doctors determined the operation would be too risky.
“The doctors said the operation would be quite risky, as one nerve connects the girls and it would have to be connected within seconds or else one of them would die,” said their father, Patrick Magsino.
While being conjoined does have some limitations, they’re just like any other 10-year-old girl. The twins enjoy taking selfies, sharing meals, and playing games on their phones. They’ve gotten used to crossing the street together, walking together, and even maneuvering their way up stairs.
“The twins have developed a great sense of understanding, but they occasionally fight over doing their preferred activities,” he said. “Joyce has a cleft lip and is the dominant of the two twins and usually manages to get her way in most situations.”
Joy and Joyce’s parents are still hopeful that one day they will be able to undergo the risky surgery safely. They are trying to raise $100,000 to pay for the operation.
“I’d be open to any procedure where the safety of both my girls will be ensured,” Patrick said.
While the girls are getting to be the age where they seek their independence, they still have an unbreakable bond as twins.
