A high-ranking career federal prosecutor is stepping down after the Attorney General's office told him to submit his resignation.  Dana Boente is U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, which stretches from Richmond to the Washington, DC suburbs.  Boente was told last week by Attorney General Jeff Session's chief of staff to submit his resignation so the political process for naming his successor can begin.  An Obama-era appointee, Boente served as acting attorney general earlier this year after Trump fired Sally Yates for refusing to enforce his travel ban.

Virginia's 2 Democratic senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, will recommend nominees to President Donald Trump.  Boente has been a federal prosecutor for more than 30 years.
