Lana Del Rey is retiring her song, "Cola," after the Harvey Weinstein controversy that has invaded the pop culture landscape in the last few month, as per a new interview with MTV News, where she does indeed admit that the track was inspired by "a Harvey Weinstein type."
"When I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein/Harry Winston type of character in mind," Del Rey said in the discussion. "I envisioned, like, a benevolent, diamond-bestowing-upon-starlets visual … like Citizen Kane or something, I'm not really sure. I thought it was funny at the time, and I obviously find it really sad now. I support the women who have come forward. I think they're really brave for doing that."
LDR said that she won't be performing the cut anymore out of respect, but it still doesn't echo the report that Page Six reported a few weeks back. In the report, the outlet suggested that she wrote the 2012 song about him, particularly the line: "Ah, he's in the sky with diamonds and he’s making me crazy / All he wants to do is party with his pretty baby." However, sources close to the singer insisted that the "Ah, he" was not meant to sound like the name Harvey.
