Even if you haven't watched Home and Away for a good 10+ years, you'd still know this iconic character.

Lynne McGranger, who plays the much loved Irene Roberts, has revealed her plans to step away from the soap.

Irene first joined the soap a staggering 24 years ago in 1993, which makes her the second longest-running actor on the soap after original Ray Meagher who plays Alf Stewart.

But Lynne has revealed to TV Week her plans to leave Home and Away "indefinitely".

The 64-year-old said "getting bored easily" was the main reason for her departure.

“I'm one of those people who needs a bit of a change-up and something different.”

"I'm off to York to play the wicked fairy in Beauty And The Beast. I'm really looking forward to it."

"I love being somewhere new, meeting people and making new friends."

However, it's believed that Lynne won't be gone permanently as the Aussie actress is known for taking sabbaticals from the soap.
