Buckcherry Frontman Josh Todd: Music Is All About the "Brand"

Buckcherry frontman Josh Todd says starting a new band at this point in his career was a challenge he always wanted.

Todd went into the early sessions for Josh Todd & the Conflict knowing that his name alone wouldn't be enough to sell the new band, but he says it's also important to keep the Buckcherry brand separate from his much more punk rock-inspired Conflict.

"As much as artists don't want to think of their music as a business and a brand, that's what it is," Todd told Joshua Toomey on Talk Toomey: The Metal Nexus Podcast. "I just want to build them separately and be able to tend to The Conflict and, you know, let it rest and go do some Buckcherry and then let it rest, and so on and so forth."

Todd says he hopes building The Conflict as a completely separate entity to Buckcherry will ultimately give it staying power.

"The model that I really was working with was the Slipknot, Stone Sour model—on a smaller scale of course. So that's what I wanted to accomplish and that's what I'm going to accomplish."

He says the band has gone about getting itself in front of people the old-fashioned way, playing shows and promoting the music for what it is.

"It's been a labor of love and I enjoy it. As long as you can deal with being humbled, because it is definitely humbling."
