Demi Lovato opened her performance at the 2017 American Music Awards sitting in the audience, watching as various tweets flashed across the monitors onstage with harsh criticisms all directed at the singer: "Piece of trash," "Your ugly," "Fat rat" and so on.

"There's so much hate in this world," Lovato said as she slowly stood up and made her way to the stage. "We have to rise about and never say sorry for who you are."

She then continued to slay her performance of her Tell Me You Love Me hit "Sorry Not Sorry," complete with a fierce group of backup dancers, sparks and singalongs from the likes of BTS, Rachel Platten and others in the audience.
