Stevie Nicks Reveals Her Shocking Drug Addiction In New Book

Fleetwood Mac superstar Stevie Nicks has revealed the shocking details behind her long term addiction to drugs both illegal and prescription, in her new tell-all autobiography Gold Dust Woman.

Nicks has spoken candidly about her drug use before, but now has written in detail about the toll her cocaine addiction, and then later her use of prescribed tranquilizers, took on her personal life and her career.

Nicks became so addicted to cocaine that she had to shadowed during live performances to ensure she didn't fall from the stage, and needed someone to tuck her safely into bed at night.

At the height of her addiction, Nicks infamously had a huge hole in her nose from her cocaine use, and was warned she risked a possible brain hemorrhage if she continued using the drug.

She eventually went into rehab at the Betty Ford clinic in 1986.

The singer admitted: 'You could put a big gold ring through my septum. It affected my eyes, my sinuses. It was a lot of fun for a long time because we didn't know it was bad. But eventually it gets hold of you, and all you can think about is where your next line is coming from.'

'All of us were drug addicts. But there was a point where I was the worst drug addict. I was a girl, I was fragile, and I was doing a lot of coke and I was in danger of brain damage',

After leaving rehab, Nicks began seeing a psychiatrist, who she claims deliberately got her hooked on tranquilizers, such as Valium, before giving her doses of Xanax and Klonopin.

Nicks recalled: 'I asked why I had to take it. He said, "Because you need it." So I took it for seven years until I just turned into a zombie'.

That addiction saw her return to rehab in 1993 which she claims was more horrific experience than quitting cocaine.

'I felt like someone opened up a door and pushed me into hell,' the singer confessed.

She says the doctor only wanted to hear her and roll stories so kept upping Nicks' dosage to keep her coming back – and talking.

'That doctor – he's the only person in my life I an honestly say I will never forgive. All those years I lost – I could have maybe met somebody or had a baby or done a few more Fleetwood Mac albums or Stevie Nicks albums.

'So I'll never forgive him. If I saw him on the street and I was driving – well, I don't have a driver's license and it's good, because I would just run him down', Nicks told Rolling Stone.
